Duke Portfolio Updates

A look at some new VC/Real Assets investments, along with a profile of InTandem Capital

This week, we’ll review Duke’s portfolio, in light of an updated filing for their retirement plan. OWL users can see full portfolio details on Duke’s profile page in OWL.

While Duke’s filings disclose the most details for the school’s private manager investments, several public-focused managers are disclosed as well, including Atyant, Discerene, TCI, Tree Line, and VARECS.

On the private side, Duke has relationships with VC firms including Sequoia, Founders Fund, Thrive Capital, and Altos Ventures. Manager relationships on the Real Assets side include Five Point Energy, Grain Management, and Kimmeridge.

The newest retirement filing also includes fund-level details. Here are a few examples of new fund investments or co-invests with existing managers disclosed in the latest filing. OWL users can see a more comprehensive list in last Friday’s newsletter and on our platform:

  • Altos Ventures - 8 co-invests

  • Five Point Energy – Water Management and Sustainable Infrastructure IV

  • Founders Fund - Founders Fund Growth II, Founders Fund VIII

  • InTandem - 4 co-invests

  • Sequoia – Venture Fund XVIII

InTandem Capital has been on Duke’s manager roster since 2017 and also counts the Heinz Endowment as an LP. InTandem Capital is a New York-based private equity firm founded by Elliot Cooperstone, a healthcare operator and investor. The firm specializes in small to mid-sized companies within the healthcare services sector, focusing on areas such as payor services, provider services, and pharmaceutical services.

InTandem has steadily increased its team size over time. As a reminder, OWL users can see these team-level metrics, updated with 2024 data from recently released ADVs, for more than 12,000 managers in OWL. If you’d like to learn more, reach out!
