From Pilots to Pilates Instructors: Hedge Funds’ Most Unusual Jobs

Using OWL's 1.6 million people profiles to identify interesting roles at funds

One of the most unique aspects of OWL is our comprehensive coverage of employees, featuring profiles on over 1.6 million professionals across 14,000 investment managers. This data lets users track new hires, departures, headcount changes, and spinouts at the firms they care about.

For any manager a user follows, OWL sends timely email alerts when these changes occur. Each person in our system has a LinkedIn-style profile and a list of past colleagues, making reference checks faster and easier for allocators.

Here’s an example of a profile for Dan Sundheim of D1 Capital (previously at Viking).

While our people data is used to track things like PM departures or new senior hires, we’ve also noticed some interesting roles at funds over time. Below, we include a few highlights of some of the more non-traditional roles we have found.

Disclaimer: LinkedIn and other people data sources can be inherently messy and are often self-reported by employees. While we’ve checked underlying sources like LinkedIn and any other data we have access to, it’s possible some of these aren’t real employees.
