At OWL, we track publicly disclosed equity positions of leading fund managers across more than 60 countries. OWL users can track daily performance estimates, risk and return metrics, exposure changes, and more for thousands of managers on our platform.

We also have “OWL Groups” – curated lists of over 500 managers frequently found in leading allocators’ portfolios. These lists are categorized by geography, sector, and style, enabling our users to monitor groups of managers and their underlying disclosed holdings directly on the OWL platform.

The table below shows how the publicly disclosed equity holdings of these groups performed during October. Growth, Financials, and Tech-focused managers’ positions outperformed in October, while international managers underperformed, with Japan, Europe, and Brazil-focused funds having a tougher month.

Biotech Bet Pays Off for Samsara

One of the top performing managers this month, according to OWL estimates, was Samsara BioCapital. Founded in 2017 by Srini Akkaraju, Samsara invests in public and private biotech companies with a hands-on approach, often taking board seats at portfolio companies. Prior to founding Samsara, Akkaraju was a general partner at Sofinnova Ventures from 2013-2016. According to public disclosures, Samsara counts Carnegie Corp and the Schmidt Family Foundation as notable LPs. OWL users can see a more detailed LP list for Samsara and thousands of other managers on our platform.

Samsara’s October performance was driven by a large investment that soared over 300% after the company released positive trial results. Invest for Charlotte – November 13th

We are helping organize 2024’s Invest for Charlotte Conference, a networking and idea-sharing event that raises money for local charities. We have great speakers from leading endowments, hedge funds, and private equity firms, and a portion of the proceeds this year will go to relief efforts in the North Carolina mountains after the devastation of Hurricane Helene.
